The ophthalmology department is managed by Dr Yves Lachkar.

The department’s activities are largely focused on the medical-surgical treatment of glaucoma, with and without cataracts, which is a field of expertise for which it is highly reputed. Since 2006, Paris Saint-Joseph Hospital has been systematically rated first in ‘Le Point’ magazine’s national hospital rating table for the field.

The department’s human and material resources are very complete. It includes a team of 12 doctors including 7 surgeon-orthoptists, a conventional or outpatient surgery hospital ward and a functional ophthalmologic exploration and consultation centre. The latest laser and surgical technology is used for treating cataracts and glaucoma.
The department has recently acquired a focused ultrasound (UC3) system and a sub-cyclo Diode laser for the treatment of refractory glaucoma.

 

The department is a leader in its field, it regularly receives national conferences involving hundreds of ophthalmologists and has contributed to the institution of a glaucoma patients association : AFG : Association France Glaucoma (French Glaucoma Association), France’s biggest association for patients suffering from this condition.

It collaborates with other specialist Parisian institution and refers ophthalmology emergency cases treated in Paris to the Rothschild Quinze Vingt Foundation and the Cochin hospital.
